Pros:25 great Monty Python classics sure to please and offend!
Cons:Nothing unless you are easily offended
The Bottom Line: For Monty Python fans and anyone with a sick, twisted or quirky sense of humor. Will round out your Monty Python collection.
It was about ten years ago next month when I was in an accident that totalled my car that held a well cherished assortment of cassettes. A few were saved when I finally was able to clean the car out at the auto body shop before they towed it away to it's crushing finale. However, among the missing was my most cherished Monty Python Sings audio cassette. I cried, I mourned, I think I missed that more than the car!
Fast forward to this past weekend. My loving husband did me the honor of remembering my chattering on about this most noted album. For my birthday, he found a CD version for me which did most certainly put a smile upon my face.
BUT, with ten years passed, would I have outgrown these songs? Would they still resonate endlessly as in days past to infect my mind with the drivel of lyrics? The answer: YES! I mean, NO, I mean... No to the first, yes to the second! HA!
So what is this CD all about? It's 25 well selected songs from various Monty Python movies, skits and so on. If you are familiar at all with Monty Python you may well recognize such familiarly hilarious tunes as:
Always Look On the Bright Side of Life
Sit On My Face
Lumberjack Song
Penis Song
Oliver Cromwell
Money Song
Accountancy Shanty
Finland
Medical Love Song
I'm So Worried
Every Sperm is Sacred
Never Be Rude To An Arab
I Like Chinese
Eric The Half A Bee
Brian Song
Bruces' Philosophers Song
Meaning of Life
Knights of the Round Table (Camelot Song)
All Things Dull and Ugly
Decomposing Composers
Henry Kissinger
I've Got Two Legs
Christmas in Heaven
Galaxy Song
Spam Song
If you're not familiar with Monty Python at all and are easily offended DO NOT HAVE A LISTEN! I can not warn you enough. There is liberal use of what today would be called downright un-PCness run rampant. But if you have a quirky sense of humor or have seen a skit or two of Monty Python's Flying Circus or you've gotten a kick out of one of their many movies, you'll surely find this CD a pleasure to listen to.
All of the songs are quirky, witty and at times, down right rude. Yet, you can't help but laugh! While Never Be Rude to an Arab and I Like Chinese can undoubtedly be called the more offensive, they work into hilarity even in this ultra-PC world we live in. Some are just rude, yet funny, like Sit On My Face. Some are just quirky and fun like Finland and Bruces' Philosophers Song.
My person favorites include Galaxy Song and Always Look On the Bright Side of Life. They're just so damn cheerful!
I think ultimately, the songs remind us to take a moment to laugh at ourselves and not to take ourselves so seriously. Be warned though, fits of laughter may ensue as well as some songs becoming firmly wedged into your brain, surely to crop up at [perhaps] inappropriate times. What you do with the moment will be entirely up to you. Perhaps your boss won't mind a rousing chorus of Knights of the Round Table!
As an added bonus the inside CD cover booklet contains assorted ink drawings, in Monty Python style as well as the words to all the songs. So if you and your buddies have had a long running bet on some of the lyrics, time to pay up!
