Paulblow's Full Review: New York Dolls by New York Dolls
They say that glam rock is coming back, well there certainly are many bands nowadays that are mixing the glam with the good old punk, and the New York Dolls were the originators of this style of street rock and roll. Back in 1975, in New York City (where all the real cool rock bands came from), the Dolls shocked the music scene with their glammed up, trashy sound. They reveled in the excesses of rock and roll and rock star mayhem, complete with drug addictions (Johnny Thunders OD'd a few years back), and their tenure was brief but ground shaking.
This CD, contains their "hits"-- Personality Crisis, Trash, Looking for a Kiss, and Pills... dirty, sleazy straight ahead rock and roll straight from the gutter --and that's the way I like it! The production is raw, just like the band, and loose --the way rock was meant to be played. The N.Y. Dolls were a street band, a party band, a good-times at any cost band-- and this album captures their attitude right on. Definitely a piece of rock and roll history here, a must have for any guitar rock fan, and anyone into the '70's punk sound. Check it out, you won't regret it...
