Why Did They Bother?

Pros:Well, it is the only live Night Ranger album.
Cons:Uninspired, dull, uninteresting
The Bottom Line: Unless you're dying to hear Night Ranger live, don't bother.
I saw Night Ranger on the 7 Wishes tour and they are very enthusiastic performers. Not as enthusiastic as say Moxy Fruvious, but Moxy has the "advantage" of being in a much smaller venue where the can actually see the audience. Night Ranger is/was a band that love(s) to tour. They enjoy playing to a live audience. In an interview way back in the late ‘80’s someone asked whether they preferred to play to small crowds or stadiums. Their answer was "the more the merrier." That enthusiasm isn’t evident here. The song list is as follows:
"Touch of Madness" (off Midnight Madness)
"When You Close Your Eyes" (off Midnight Madness)
"Man In Motion" (off … guess)
"Don’t Start Thinking (I’m Alone Tonight)" (off Man In Motion)
"Let Him Run" (off Midnight Madness)
"Goodbye" (off 7 Wishes)
"Reason To Be" (off Man In Motion)
"Four In the Morning" (off 7 Wishes)
"Sister Christian" (off Midnight Madness)
"Don’t Tell Me You Love Me"( off Dawn Patrol)
"Halfway To the Sun" (off Man In Motion)
"(You Can Still) Rock In America)" (off Midnight Madness)
For some reason Big Life was completely slighted despite the fact that it came out the year before Man In Motion. It’s probably for the best. This is very much a lack luster product. They are, I would guess, at the end of the tour and tired. The sound quality is hollow. The band sounds like they might slide out of key at any moment. I think they just wanted to call it quits and owed MCA another record. And based on the promotion the record got I think MCA was happy to be shot of Night Ranger too. To be honest, the only reason I have this CD at all is because I’m a completeist and it was free.
