An Overlooked Classic

Written: Jan 25 '00
Pros:energetic and upbeat, strong from start to finish
Cons:none. there isn't a weak moment on the album.

Whether you have some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers more popular stuff already, and like it, or you're just starting to get into the Peppers, this album is a classic that you need. The ONLY Chili Peppers album with the four original peppers, and, in my opinion, the best of their 7 full length albums. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, released in 1988, is a little harder and more energetic than Mother's Milk (1989) and more upbeat than BloodSugarSexMagik (1991). You won't find an 'Under the Bridge' on The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. The only song that comes close, "Behind the Sun," is an incredible mid-tempo funk ballad rather than a slow folk song. This isn't to say that fans of their other work will be disappointed, but you definitely will not get "more of the same." The Peppers made 3 albums before Mothers Milk put them on the map: The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Freaky Styley, and The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. On more than a few occasions, Peppers members have hinted that they consider Uplift Mofo to be the best of them. Fans of the hardcore funk/punk/rap stlye that the Chili Peppers pioneered may consider it to be the best of all 7.
