To some, the words "good" and "80's music" might not belong in the same sentence. However, when taking a musical look at the band REO Speedwagon, it is hard not to use the word good. Yet when listening to their album "Hi Infidelity," it is hard not to use the word amazing!
"Hi Infidelity" was released in 1980 by REO Speedwagon, a band who is affectionately known as "Speedwagon" in 80's circles. Filled with some of Speedwagon's best songs, "Hi Infidelity" is an album that all true 80's fans should have within their collection.
"Keep on Loving You" is one of Speedwagon's most popular songs, and a song that people with mullets and denim tuxedos used to hook up to back in the highschool dance days of 1983. The words are sincere and make you think about all the people whom you may have sung the lyrics to this song in their ear. The musical range within this song goes from a slower tempo and thoughtful lyrics perfect for a makeout session in the back of a Camaro to a more empassioned and firm beat with lyrics that cry out the words "I'm going to keep on loving you...cuz' it's the only thing I want to do...I don't want to sleep, I just want to keep on loving you..."
"Take it on the run" is a song about love gone awry. The main message in this song is that the ballad singer is basically telling the woman who might be trying to come back to him to "take it on the run." The woman seems to be telling the singer things that he simply "cannot believe baby" and for that reason he feels he would be better without her in his life.
All of the lyrics on this album could be considered worthy for a designation among the "Monster Ballad" albums. The songs are all very romantic, or pseudo-romantic, in a very cheesy 80's kind of way. The music on the album is largely electric with a very generic 80's feel running throughout the majority of this album.
The tracks on the album are:
1. Don't Let Him Go
2. Keep on Loving You
3. Follow my Heart
4. In Your Letter
5. Take it on the Run
6. Tough Guys
7. Out of Season
8. Shakin it Loose
9. Someone Tonight
REO Speedwagon is made up of Neal Doughty (Keyboards), Dave Amato (guitar and vocals), Kevin Cronin (guitar and lead vocals), Bryan Hitt (drums) and Bruce Hall (bass and vocals).
If you can find it, I would recommend that you listen to this album on vinyl, as that is the original format (and the one I listened to) and you really get a better feel for the band on vinyl than you do on a CD.
