hamburgerman's Full Review: They're All Gonna Laugh at You! by Adam Sandler
I am an Adam Sandler fan. While on Saturday Night Live, he was consistently funny, and most of his movies are strong comedies. So why aren't his skits on this CD funny?
Adam Sandler's THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT YOU! contains a total of 22 tracks, and maybe 6 total are even worth mentioning. The rest are just a waste of time and I am surprised Mr. Sandler allowed them to be released.
The CD contains several familiar voices, including SNL Alums Rob Schneider, David Spade, Tim Meadows and also features Conan O'Brien and a bunch of other people I've never heard of. It is clear these stars had a good time in the studio, doing skits about going to the bathroom, masturbating, school violence, and getting stoned and drunk. The severe beating skits are especially unfunny. All of these topics have been known to be extraordinarily funny when executed properly, but these guys just didn't do it.
Only two skits are worth mentioning - Assistant Principal's First Day & The Longest Pee. First Day is simply an announcement by the assistant principal of a high school stating he is in charge today and there will be some new ground rules, such as the girls shower will be moved into his office where he can watch them bathe themselves and each other. Sandler's delivery in the skit works very well, he's not pushing the comedy, not emphasizing what we should find shocking as he and his co-stars do in almost every other skit. The Longest Pee is more sound effects than dialogue, but it works.
Now for the CD's saving grace - THE THANKSGIVING SONG & LUNCHLADY LAND. I have to recommend the CD based on these two songs alone. Without them, though, this CD is a piece of crap. Many of you have heard at least one of these tracks. Most radio stations will play THE THANKSGIVING SONG on Thanksgiving (duh.) I believe both have been performed on Saturday Night Live as well, and there has been a music video for LUNCHLADY LAND. If you haven't heard either of these tracks, try to find them, or buy this CD at a very reduced price.
