sbennick's Full Review: Greatest Hits by Sawyer Brown
I personal feel Sawyer Brown is one of the greater "groups " in the country music business. Its a shame they are performing at fairs, instead of bigger places. With that said, lets talk about the Sawyer Brown's Greatest Hits CD....
I love to listen to this CD driving. Okay, I'll admit it, I like to listen to it loud! Sawyer Brown's Greatest Hits have the kind of songs that MAKE you need to tap your foot or grab a dance partner. Most are heart pounding, fast paced songs, however there are a few slower heart felt songs.
I purchased my copy of Sawyer Brown's Greatest Hits though BMG Music Club, back in the early 90’s. However, you can still find it at Media Play, Best Buy and other music stores. You can also find it at Half.com if you prefer not to purchase new.
When you sit down and look at the cover of Sawyer Brown's Greatest Hits CD, you can tell this is no "regular " country group. Their picture leads you to believe that. But when you play the CD, you know it is true. This CD is approximately 30 minutes long with 10 songs. Of the 10 songs, Mark Miller wrote 5 of them. Sawyer Brown's Greatest Hits was released in 1990 on Curb Records and produced by Randy Scuggs and Mark Miller.
Mark Miller (lead vocals)has more energy than any performer I have seen. His energy jumps off the stage at you. I love to watch him perform. Other performers, do a lot of parading in their shows too. However, you can feel the difference in Mark's doings. I guess the spontaneity really comes though. Mark Miller can not stand still hardly. : ) You can truly tell he is just flat out happy to be there!
There are a few songs that really stand out on this CD. Anyone who has listened to country radio in the last 10 years have heard them, I’m sure…..
Step that Step(this is a very fast, full of energy song) Heart Don’t Fall Now (this is a slow, heart felt song) Betty's Bein' Bad (great 2 step song. Very fast paced) The Race Is On (I have 2 stepped to this song may times, in my younger day :- ) Leona(Another great 2-stepper) Shakin'( This is great for a line dance)
There are a couple of other songs I would like to comment on. The first song is The Race is On, anyone who listened to country music in the "old " days, may think they have heard this one before. They are right. The is a cover of an old George Jones song from long ago. Some said it could not be done. But I think they did a very good job. If you did not know it was a cover, you would think it was one of " their " songs.
The second song I want to comment on is close to being my favorite on the CD. Out Goin' Cattin' has a totally different favor to it. It has a east coast beach music sound. This is a great shag* song.
I think this is a CD anyone who likes Country Music can enjoy. It is not the country of yesteryear, that’s for sure. But, that’s okay. Sometimes, different is nice….
*For those who do not know, the "shag " is what is known as the dance of South Carolina. It has to do with Ocean Drive, hot days, long nights and good times. :- )
