Minx_In_LA's Full Review: Crazy World by Scorpions
I was adding Crazy World to my list of favorites, and I noticed no one had reviewed it. Well, it's ten years old. There's so much new music that the oldy-but-goody can get lost in the maelstrom. But this CD is worth your time and money, and you won't even have to pay big money for it, because you'll probably find it in the bargain bin at a CD exchange store.
I bought this album for the last song listed- "Send me an Angel". I'd heard it at a friend's house, and thought "what a beautiful ballad". I had no idea it was by this hard rocking metal band. I hope it's ok to quote lyrics- "The wise man said just find your place in the eye of the storm- seek the roses along the way, just beware the thorns". Words to live by, my friends! Klaus Meine, the lead vocalist, wrote those lyrics and many more on the album. His are actually the songs that I like the most, including the savage, pounding "Lust or Love" and the soaring vocals on "Tease Me, Please Me".
There are 11 songs and they run over 50 minutes. I pop it in the CD player and get on the trampoline or the treadmill, and it mixes the perfect blend of slow songs with heart pumpers. I'm afraid the band would cringe with disbelief to know how their music was being used, but I love singing along.
This album is great for the teen angst phase- nothing like moaning "You can shoot me down, you can drag me 'round...you can smash my heart, you can trash our love, but my desire for you is much too strong." (Off "To Be With You In Heaven") You can wallow in that 16yr old lost love feeling, or what the heck, it might work for the lost love of the 30yr old too.
This collection is similar to many other end of the 80's records, but I think it's better written and presented. Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" didn't hold up as well, even with a similar mix of ballads and rock. The Scorpions were always just more talented, and sloughed off most of the fluff of "pop" music.
