lodigs's Full Review: Boogada, Boogada, Boogada by Screeching Weasel
Ohhhh.... my first ever Screeching Weasel album. I think someone found it on the subway. A bright green cassette case that nobody thought would change our lives...
Which maybe it didn't, but either way, this is one great album. The LP is full of naked pictures of SW bowling, which no home should be without. Song topics range from then current politics ("Nicaragua") to record company issues ("Professional Distribution") to love, zombies, and everything inbetween.
This is pop punk at its finest. Less poppy than other SW albums, Boogada, Boogada, Boogada is fast and furious, compacting 26 mostly brilliant songs into far under an hour.
Screeching Weasel's love for the Ramones is obvious, especially in songs like "I Wanna be Naked". Pop punk for sure, but with more intelligence than a lot of bands. Screeching Weasel, for a while, defined everything I liked about music, and to this day they continue to be included on my list of favorites (of course, it's a very long list).
In high school, all my band wanted to be was a crummy Screeching Weasel rip-off. Boogada, Boogada, Boogada is a fine example of the real thing.
