Even though I rated this EONS ago.... (Reply to this comment)

I wanted to come back and say that If You Love Somebody Set Them Free was THE most depressing song for me. It was wrapped up in a relationship that I thought would last forever. Well heck - was does an 18 year old know?! :).
Fortress Around Your Heart remains one of my favorite songs. If I ever got around to creating a top 100 list, it would definitely be there. There's something about the chord combination in the chorus that gets me every time...

Another excellent review; and while i'm enjoying the passion and outside details on all your Sting reviews, i admit the specific musical details that you're reacting to are a good touch (i'd never consciously noticed how much of the musical spotlight he was kicking away on this album, from the first vocals on). I agree about the slower/moodier songs here being a highlight; "We Work the Black Seam" may be my single favorite thing he's done. Good to run across you.

Wow, I read your review a couple of times, before writing a comment!
I feel EXACTLY the same about 'The Dream', except that my school years were the early nineties, so I heard very few Police before Sting. Anyway, a terrific review, congratulations!
eh.. You've almost skipped the actual description of the songs, something I love to cover so much. Have you done that, there would probably be nothing left for me to write about.. I'm working on 'The Dream' at the moment and will probably touch upon the album structure and the songs. I hope to publish it on the weekend :)
Thanx again - I can't wait 4 your 'Nothing Like the Sun' review.
Happy Holidays!

History's lessons . . . drowned in red wine (Reply to this comment)

There was a time back when i knew heavy metal was the chosen music of the gods that i called him 'Stink.' i still call him that today, but not derisively like i used to back in those days when i was learning to find my way (still working on that part) . . .
Ten Summoner's Tales is still my favorite of his studio releases, but the others always displace each other from the runners-up spot . . . this one gets that place whenever i'm into the mood for Russians (i need to read the inserts more oftenit wasn't until i heard the Profokiev piece that i realized it'd been borrowed), . . . Black Seam, & Children's Crusade . . . & Fortress . . . . . . heck! all of this one!
Have i told you yet how glad i am to find someone who 'does' Sting so well? i have? Oh good . . . oh yea, i don't know if you've ever stumbled across her epinions, but wildvirgogirl is another huge Stink nut.
Great work! ...t-žoo

I loved this album when it first came out - could not listen to it often enough (much to the eternal dismay of my roommates). I still listen to it and am impressed with such a strong, and different solo debut! Great review!
