Wild Horses Couldn't Drag Me Away On Sundays
Written: Apr 11 '01
Pros:all songs are great
Cons:more for the new age listener, not for everyone
The Bottom Line: If you liked Pure Moods or anything by Enya you may love this!
Remember the intense scene from the movie Fear starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Walberg? The scene on the rollercoaster that you felt was so provocative that you felt your parental instincts kick in as you covered your daughters eyes. Remember the song that was as intense as the scene it played apon. Sure if it was you on the rollercoaster doing the same thing the actors in the movie were doing it would already be an intense moment but add the song Wild Horses and the sparks really fly.
Didn’t see the movie? OK so maybe your a bit confused at the moment. You can A: take my word for it and continue on reading this review or B: continue reading this review and rent the movie. Either way I hope your lead to choice C: whether or not you should you buy the CD titled Blind by the Sundays.
The last song on the Sundays CD, Wild Horses is powerful in one word. Of course there’s the whole word limit thing going on at Epinions and the fact that I would never buy a CD based on one word and would never except anyone else to make a decision on it either. So let me give you a little more...
I bought Blind by the Sundays solely because of the movie Fear. It was the first time I had ever heard the song Wild Horses and had it stuck in my head for days.I had no idea who sang it or whether or not I could even purchase it. Then while I had my Direct TV on a soft rock music channel I heard it playing again and wrote down the name of the artist and the CD it came off of....
The Sundays took the song originally done by the Rolling Stones and turned it into an amazing ballad. 60% of the lyrics are hard to recognize but the chorus is what makes this song so moving anyways.
Wild Horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
The song is full of intense passion both in the voice of the lead singer, Harriet Wheeler, and in the acoustics of the guitar and other instruments that play in the background. Listening to it brings back memories of experiencing those same emotions.
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am,
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild Horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain,
Now you've decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Can make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild Horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie,
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried,
Let's do some living after we die
Wild Horses couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them someday
Of course I would never tell someone they should by a CD based on just one song. I know I didn’t want to spend $12 for just one song but after searching the net I couldn’t find anyone selling the single and ended up forking over money for the entire CD.
Most the time when I do this its a big mistake. Usually the song used in the movie I first hear it on turns out to be the only song worth listening to on the CD. Luckily this wasn’t the case. Almost every one of the songs are enjoyable to listen to. None were as moving and intense as Wild Horses but most were really quite good.
All are upbeat, most bringing a happy feeling to the listener. Aside from Wild Horses, which is by far my favorite song of all that are in my CD collection, my other favorites on this CD are Love, Goodbye, Medicine and 24 hours.
Song list
1. I Feel
2. Goodbye
3. Life and Soul
4. More
5. On Earth
6. God Made Me
7. Love
8. What Do You Think?
9. 24 Hours
10. Blood On My Hands
11. Medicine
12. Wild Horses
There is a definitely different tone to the music on this CD that is hard to describe. I’ll try my best at it. Its not something your going to hear on the top 40 and probably not on any radio station for that matter. Not because it was released about 9 years ago, but because the music is more for the new age listener. If you like Enya or any of the music found on the Pure Moods compilations then you may like this.
Recommended: Yes
Great Music to Play While: Reading or Studying
