I consider Tell No Tales to be the best TNT album in their catalog! Released in 1987, their 2nd American release, TNT really improved not only their sound but also song quality. I truly believe that had this disc gotten regular airplay in the States (which it didn't), TNT would've been huge! This record has everything a fan of pop metal could ever want from catchy hooks to screaming leads from guitar virtuoso, Ronnie Le Tekrö. It really has it all!
Norway-based TNT really defined their style on this album capturing all the right elements to make this a joy to listen to over and over and not get tired of it. "10,000 Lovers (in One)" would've made the perfect radio single followed by my favorite track on the record, "As Far As The Eye Can See", an outstanding tune that captures the essence of Tony Harnell's high-toned vocals and Le Tekrö's masterful guitar soloing.
Le Tekrö also gets to blow his wad on "Sapphire" which totally showcases his rapid-fire machine gun riffs. Again, another jaw-dropper for all guitar freaks out there. Listening to this stuff back in the 80's during our formative years, we used to laugh and shake our heads; Le Tekrö was a force to be reckoned with! He also shows off his classical background in "Smooth Syncopation".
"Northern Lights" is a beautiful ballady-type song that reminds one of what it might be like growing up in Norway. And the final track, "Tell No Tales", is a burner that ends this terrific album on a great note. The production has really gone up a notch from their previous release and their unique sound has been forever defined on this record.
This disc is a must have for all fans of 80's metal, particularly pop metal fans and guitar nuts who want to be blown away by one of the greatest metal axe-slingers of all time!
