The Classic Quest

Written: Aug 14 '02 (Updated Sep 01 '02)
Pros:Hot Jazz Beats, Lyrics, and Creativity,
Cons:Q-tip has too many solo tracks, Where's Phife at?
The Bottom Line: This is The Tribe's high point in thier hip hop career Buy this album to find out why

The Low End Theory was believed that it gave more popularity to A Tribe Called Quest cause of classic hip hop songs like "Scenario" and "Check the Rhime"
Low End Theory was also believed to be one of the top hip hop albums of all time,
A Tribe Called Quest consists of 3 members, Q-tip, Phife Dawg,
and Ali Shaheed Mahummad, although the original included Jarobi he left the Tribe before this album came, he only appeared in the 1st tribe album.
The Tribe really didn't need Jarobi, they were still good without him.
If you notice the album covers (with the exception of the first and the last), you notice that the Tribe's trademark has been this Red, Green, and Black, female person
(I Think), just a fact but i still don't get why they put it
anyways here is the review,

Track Listing:

1 Excrusions
2 Buggin Out'
3 Rap Promoter
4 Butter
5 Verses from The Abstract
6 Show Business
7 Vibes and Stuff
8 The Infamous Date Rape
9 Check the Rhime
10 Everything is Fair
11 Jazz (We've Got)
12 Skypager
13 What?
14 Scenario

This Album begins with Excrusions a solo joint by Q-Tip, although Q-Tip spits out nice rhymes, the beat dosn't really get you into this track, this is my least favorite track on this album, at times you can hear a horn loop, the beat consists of drums and pianos

Buggin Out' starts out slow and dull, the beat isn't really so good, it kind of sounds similar to Excrusion, but Phife Dawg and Q-tip definetly make up for the beat
because Phife Dawg sparks the track with his flow, also Q-tip does the same
Both flow tremendously nice to this dull beat, but the beat does kind of change when the "Buggin Out!" hook comes in it which also helps this track, good job

Rap Promoter
This Beat also sound similar to track 1, and 2, Q-tip once again goes solo
this track is alright, he talks about how rap promoters act like, he does a good job with the lyrics, although it could've used Phife but still it was ok

Butter is one of my favorite tracks on this album, this time Phife goes solo,
the beat is smooth (like butter), and Phife flows great to this track,
his lyrics is talking about a woman named "Flow" in high school
and his story with her , Q-tip has one part in the track
he sings the hook for this track, at one part you can hear Q-tip fully,
but when the hook goes again after the first time you can barely understand, and hear
what he is saying because it's so low, but it really don't matter the beat is hot,
and everything else

Verses from The Abstract is yet ANOTHER solo by Q-tip
this track has a very laid back track, and Q-tip flows to this track very well
this track also features Vinia Mojica who has a very beautiful voice,
she is usally heard on Rawkus record labels, she sings a nice hook for this track,
and helps out with the beat, nice track

Show Business features Q-tip, Phife Dawg, and Brand Nubian's Diamond D, Lord Jamar, and Sadat X, everyone
does great in this track,
the beat is more up tempo than all the other tracks, it's more of a party type of track
the beat changes when the chorus comes in, this track is hot

Vibes and Stuff for some reason the mood of of this track feels like the cover of this album, it sounds kind of dark, at times theres a little sound that plays over and over,
the beat does change when Q-tip gives shout outs to his fans, and cities,
this track is pretty good both Q-tip and Phife have good lyrics in this

The Infamous Date Rape talks about the percentage of Rape in this world and how
it starts and everything that deals with rape, although the beat should sound more
slow, but this is an Ok track

Check the Rhime is definetly one of my favorite tracks, the beat, lyrics, everything,
at first the beat has the horn loops that is well done, as the Tribe start thier verses
the beat is more laid back, but when the hook comes in those horns lops from the beginning come back, I like the way how Q-tip and Phife, switch themselves on each verse from the opposite, this track is hot no doubt, the only problem is this track ends in an unexpected time

Everything is Fair is a fairly good track, the beat track starts with a hook
"Everything is fair when you living in the city" this hook is used as the chorus for this track, while the beat of the track is a type of techno beat, when the hook comes in
the beat changes, Q-tip 1nce again goes solo, he flows well to this track, and his lyrics
are right on track

Jazz (we've got) although not really a jazzy type of track, the beat is still kind of slow,
the only time you can hear jazzy tunes is right at the beginning of this track,
Both Tip, and Phife have thier own verses, the only problem i have with this track is that
Both Q-tip and Phife Dawg rap to loudly to this laid back beat, especially when Q-tip
gives his shout outs

Skypager to me is an annoying track, i believe this track was just thrown in this album to give it more time, this track just talks about a skypager, and also this track is too short, this is probabley the worst track on this album,
but it's really like a club track, which might be the occasion for this track

What? is another track with only Q-tip in it, this track is just Q-tip asking questions
about whats this without that, it's not really a hot track, the only cool part is the very last part when Q-tip starts using what numerous times, and then a group shouts out
WHAT!!, which introduces one of the best hip hop songs ever

Scenario is the track that gave this album more fame, and also was known as one of the best hip hop songs ever cause of the creativity each rapper put into this track, Leaders of New School are featured in this track, Charlie Brown, Dinco, and Busta Rhymes, along with Q-tip and Phife, every verse is hot, and i mean every, but Busta Rhymes steals the show with his lyrical skills, even though the beat may sound original, the lyrics make up for it tremendously, the Tribe has saved the best for last
the track had the best production on the album, and the best lyrics, Classic, and if you saw the video it was one of the best, using the computer technology back in those days

So thats all the tribe has for us, The low end theory is a classic album that every
hip hop fan should own, with songs like "Butter", "Check the Rhime", "Scenario"
you can't go wrong, the tribe has continued to spark hot lyrics, and beats, years after this album, the only album i think can compete with this is Midnight Marauders
realeased 2 years after this one, all the albums they made were great,
west coast hip hop was dominating at the time this album was made,
the Tribe didn't care about competition, they rapped cause they loved hip hop,
and with this classic album there is no exception.
Although future releases from the Tribe weren't all that heard, The Low End Theory
had the highest sale rate, mainly cause of the Scenario track. Nonetheless every hip hop fan must cop this album, if you are a fan of the Tribe
you be crazy not to get this hip hop fans say this is one of the top 10 hip hop albums of all time so i guess thats true to my knowledge, this album is Pure Classic.
Get it you won't regret it
