I'm hooked on Suzanne Vega!
Written: Mar 26 '01 (Updated Mar 26 '01)
Pros:simple arrangement; unique style
Cons:might not be your cup of tea
The Bottom Line: Fresh. Her own unique style of music and lyrics is a pleasure to listen to in any location.
The first time I heard the songs on this album (and the next) was at her concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. My friends had a spare ticket and invited me to go along. I didn't even have this album back then, but I already heard her "theme song" Left Of Center for the film "Pretty In Pink".
The tunes are catchy and fresh, and the lyrics unique. A singer-songwriter through and through, this album defines the benchmark on which her future works are judged - I still do. I liked this album so much that I always brought it along with me in the car whenever I drove between London and university at 100mph - it helped me to concentrate!
Her music may not be your cup of tea, but if you heard and liked Left Of Center before, I'm sure you'll be even more pleased with her works on this album.
