| kristinafh's Full Review: The Videos by Wilson Phillips |
The front cover of this video looks exactly like the cover of their self-titled, debut cd, Wilson Phillips. Did you notice Carnie's dark auburn hair and big hoop earrings? Well, I did, and in 1990, big gold hoop earrings became a staple in my wardrobe <g>. Hey - I didn't have to change my hair color!
Released as an addition to their debut album, this video is a few moments of interview clips and three of their first videos that appeared on MTV.
Hold On
A very inspirational song. This song caught my ear the first time I heard it played. Written by Chynna Phillips and Glen Ballard. I love pop and I love voices that flow well with harmonies. The girls talk about how cold it was when they were shooting the video on the mountains. It was 15 below and they had on street clothes with no coats.
Release Me
Shot in black and white, the girls are in a house, located above the ocean. Written by Wilson Phillips and Glen Ballard, this song like their first single, does a good job with the melodies and harmonies. Wendy and Chynna lean over the piano as Carnie plays.
Impulsive
The girls talk about the making of this video as being a more relaxed and spontaneous environment. Wendy steps up to sing most of the lead lines for this song. She does a decent job however, Chynna still outshines her. I like this song because it's faster paced then their others and the lead guitar parts really stand out.
This video is much shorter than their other video (for Shadows and Light) and doesn't contain nearly enough interview footage. They should have taken the time to interview each member so that the audience could get the chance to know them.
It only contains their first three videos. They released an additional two from this album however, if you want to see those, you'll have to purchase the second video (for Shadows and Light).
The likelihood that you are going to run out and buy this is slim. That's okay. It's a little piece of the past that I'm happy to own.
