| Debbie26's Full Review: Don't Take the Girl [Single] by Tim McGraw |
This epinion is part of a write off hosted by Caleo and Elvisdo. It is part of the One Liner Write off. I thought of many one liners I would have really liked to write about but couldn't find any where to write about them. So this isn't really my first choice but I think it is a great song, not really much of a one liner but the story is great and the last line is so powerful.
It was the very first song I had ever hear by Tim McGraw, that day I knew that it held meaning for me and I knew that I loved this singer. I still love all of Tim's work and he always finds a way to touch my heart and soul but this song has changed my way of thinking and also touches me much deeper.
Tim McGraw's "Don't Take The Girl" is a powerful song. It shows the progression of a young love through many obsticles. First they are young children who have yet to discover their love, then teen agers who are just beginning to understand it, and later a family willing to give up life for each other.
The song shows me two things that are very important to me. First we shouldn't judge people right away, we change and you never know when that little girl you didn't want around will be the woman you love. Second when we are in love we are willing to give all for the special person in our life. This song also touches me because I came close to death during a tubal pregnancy and my husband was right there for me. We met when we were 13 years old and I think this song represents the kind of love we have.
Here are the lyrics to the song...............
.....................................................
Johnny's daddy was taking him fishing when he was eight years old. Little girl came through the front gate holding a fishing pole. His dad looked down and smiled, said we can't leave her behind. Son I know you don't want her to go, but someday you'll change your mind and Johnny said, take Jimmy Johnson take Tommy Thomson, Take my best friend bo take any body that you want as long as she don't go take any boy in the world, daddy please don't take the girl.
Same old boy same sweet girl, ten years down the road. He held her tight and kissed her lips in front of the picture show. Stranger came and pulled a gun, grabbed her by the arm. Said if you do what I tell you to there won't be any harm and Johnny said, take my money take my wallet take my credit cards. Here's the watch that my grandpa gave me, heres the keys to my car mister give it a whirl, but please don't take the girl.
Same old boy same sweet girl five years down the road. There's gonna be a little one and she says its time to go. The doctor says the baby's fine, but you'll have to leave cause his momma's fading fast and Johnny hit his knees and there he prayed take the very breath you gave me take the heart from my chest. I'd gladly take her place if you let me make this my last request, take me out of this world God please don't take the girl.

.........................................................
The one liner that really touches my heart is "I'd gladly take her place if you let me make this my last request, take me out of this world God please don't take the girl. It is about how strong a love can grow and how much a person can become so important to you that you would gladly give up all you have for them. A little boy, who doesn't want any little girls around, falls in love with and will do anything for this young girl.
