This album was my first introduction to Toby, Michael and Kevin -- otherwise known as DC Talk. Their rap, rock and soul combines to make a wonderful variety of music that doesn't just stick to one type. This is evident by how their music has changed throughout the years.
DC Talk, their first album, focuses more on the rap portion of their music. Keep in mind that when this album came out, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were hot. Toby, Michael and Kevin were right in the mix, making their own similar music.
Their music, however, differs from the secular music of the times in the most important way. Their music focuses entirely on God. Judging from their current popularity, I think it's safe to say that their message has been well-received.
Although their lyrics are straight to the point and don't sugar coat things, their words make sense and I suppose that's why they've stayed around so long. They write many of their own songs and from the passion put into them, it's obvious that no matter what they sing, it comes from their hearts.
