I did--very much!!!

You, Ron, Di, and Bob are especially good at doing music reviews. There are others who are, too, but you four are my very favorites when I'm in the mood to hear melodies in my head while computing!

Hugs!

YOU NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME DON - ANOTHER GREAT REVIEW (Reply to this comment)
by JAGUARDOG
The Turtles was another Great Group of the 60's that I loved and collected all their singles of. I have only 2 CD's by them “Golden Hits” that has 14 songs and “Greatest Hits” that has 20 songs. Thanks for letting me in on this CD being out there, I will positively be looking to add this one to my ever-growing collection that is well over 1,000 now. Their last single release to hit the BB TOP 100 was there version of “Eve of Destruction” in 1970 but it only reached #100. My favorites by them are “Happy Together”, “Elenore”, “You Showed Me”, “It Ain’t Me Babe”, “you Baby”, “She’s My Girl” and “She’d Rather Be With Me”.

Pa pa-puh pa puh-pa,
Pah-puh-pa, pa-paaaaaaaaaH."

Interesting factoid that Ray Davies was their producer for a while.

"Pa, pa, puh-pa...."

GO AWAY! Now I can't get the hook out my head, damn you!

Jennifer,

1967 was a great year for music --- I love the Moody Blues' "Nights In White Satin," too. I also loved The Beatles' "Penny Lane" and Herman's Hermits' "There's A Kind Of Hush" that year.

Terrific review -- have to get this 5cd set!! As for the Turtles' song -- 1967 was the year I got married, also the year of the #1 hit Nights in White Satin by Moody Blues.

Another great review that fills us all memories :o)

I can remember hanging upside down on the monkey bars singing "Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it has to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together" with all my friends LOL

Now, Quinn The Eskimo, that's one I haven't heard in AGES!!

Stephen,

"Happy Together" seems to have had a major impact on many people. I often worry that the "our song" for some kids these days may be "Baby Got Back"...

5!!! (Reply to this comment)

A five-CD collection from what is for me a one-hit group staggers my imagination. But then I could not imagine even "Happy Together" as "our song," as a high school girlfriend did (way back when it was new).

On "Elenore" (Reply to this comment)
by pmills1210, pmills1210 is an Advisor on Epinions in Music
I always thought the lyrics were a cynical look at a relationship. Elenore hasn't committed herself to a boy who loves her, and he is tired of her lack of commitment. "You're my pride and joy et cetera" is the big statement about his frustration.

I didn't catch up to a lot of the Turtles' material until the eighties, when Rhino re-released their White Whale catalog, as well as their Crossfires LP, some Flo & Eddie, and some EPs by the Rhythm Butchers (the Turtles' alter egos after shows, when they'd fool around with a tape recorder running). They had some of the best pop music of the sixties. Thanks for sharing!

Sincerely, Pat

I joined on your birthday? Cool! I turned 46 on January 16 (there was, of course, a huge ticker-tape parade in my honor... er, okay, there was no ticker-tape parade, but Elvis and I are both Capricorns!).

Jo,

The years do pass so fast, don't they? I really miss old AM radio and its mix of rock, pop, country, blues, jazz and soul music (imagine, hearing "Penny Lane" by The Beatles and "Strangers In The Night" by Frank Sinatra on the same Top 40 station --- pretty cool).

Sweet Memories!!! (Reply to this comment)

This review of The Turtles is fantastic!!! I love and remember all of the songs you provided the lyrics to--and I love and remember many that you didn't. As for the rest, I'm sure I'd love them, too, and remember them too after hearting them, because this was one super group during a great time for making music!!!

Excuse my pun, but your rock reviews rock!!!

One more thing. . .

I keep forgetting to tell you but you joined Epinions.com right on my birthday!

Which one? #47

I joined the following summer--and I'm so glad that our paths have finally crossed!

Hugs!

why don't you! :) Actually those were the good old days. I sound like my mom when she used to croon over Frank S. and now I have one of his albums and my kids listen to Dylan but the music was the best. Nice job.

Thanks, Connie.

If it helps us feel any younger --- the biggest-selling act of 1996 and again in 2000 was The Beatles, according to Billboard magazine. The biggest concert touring act of 2001? Why, that youngster Paul McCartney (in second place, The Rolling Stones).

Makes me feel more hip, any way. (smile)

I feel so old.... (Reply to this comment)
by briandalsmom

I've never been one to listen to old music--it reminds me of where I was and what I was doing when I listened to it the first time. I prefer to find new music, new bands, 'cause it's just too sad for me to live in the past.

Reading your reviews always reminds me of the great music that has been a part of my life's story. You write about groups I've long forgotten about. Reading about them isn't nearly as sad as hearing them--it's a delightful remembrance. Thank you for taking me back....

I always look forward to your reviews.
