Pros:new, inovative, interesting, sorta frightening. but very cool
Cons:not a 'all-situations' type of cd.
Mike Patton is one of, if not the most, highly underappreciated, underestimated artist of our time. We should feel lucky to live in the same period of time with such greatness. Possibly the same way those who lived at the same time as Beethoven and Bach. It won't be until many years from now when we finally appreciate what this musical extrodinare is doing for the face of music.
Mike Allan Patton, the frontman for the highly unique group Mr. Bungle, and the former front man of the smash rock band Faith No More, presents his world to us in his release Adult Themes For Voice. A journey through the audible life of Guinea Pigs, Robot Sex and a Woman with the skin of the Moon.
Never before has anyone attempted such a profound sound/vocal experimentation. A soundfull, stream of conciousness cd full of strange noises, unique levels and surreal formulas of "music". He has brought us his thoughts in the form of audible sweetness. All the noises and "sound effects" that you may hear on this album are 100% Mike Patton.
Now don't go out and buy this expecting to hear songs. Don't even expect to hear intelligable words or an understandable voice, just sit back and enjoy the noise. I don't use the term noise in a bad way either, it's just the only word that I can think of to described his compositions. That's exactly what they are too... vocal compositions.
The album was supposedly recorded on a cheap little mixer with a few mics in some of the more finer hotel rooms from around the globe. Although many people have reported that Faith No More was in the midst of touring when this album was aledgidly recorded.
That's neither here nor there though. This album is a work of art, a sing of things to come in the future, and definatily a must-hear for those musical extremists.
After all this album was released on the Tzadik recording label, which produce a line of cd's devoted to the compositions of artists. I have always been fascinated by Mike Patton and all that he has done in his musical career for almost 20 years now.
There is no other recommendation of similarity that I can give to you now. Maybe in a decade or so when everyone becomes bored with music and looks to the past and discovers the treasure that is and always will be Mike Patton. For more of his compositions, check out his second release on the same label called Pranzo Oltranzista
Thanks
