Scorn is an alias used by one Mick Harris. Harris used to be a drummer in the english grindcore group Napalm Death, I have no idea why he left Napalm Death to record music under the name Scorn but I consider it a wise career choice.
scorn makes various forms of electronic music and have nothing to do with grindcore wich for me is a good thing since i have no love for that kind of music.
Scorn has recorded various forms of electronic music influenced by dub, industrial, techno and so on. The music has often been dark and disturbing. Scorn used to include a bassist as well ,Nicholas James Bullen, but by the time this album was recorded he had already departed from the group.
And what does this particular album, Logghi Barogghi, sound like? i would describe it as really minimal industrial techno or something. The songs consist of a looped beat with slight variations through the song. Over this various sounds are used electronic sound effects, bass guitar. Sometimes human voices are used as well but they are mostly too distorted to be able to understand.
You really have to listen to this music with headphones if you want to hear the variations and all the background effects. Otherwise it will just sound like the same beat being repeated for 5 minutes. This is mood music and if played at loud volume can introduce feelings of paranoia and claustrophobia. I listened to this the first time on headphones while walking through Stockholm at night and the city suddenly took on a whole new threatening apperance. Don't ask me why, but I like that kind of thing. It's feels good to be a bit scared and paranoid sometimes.
I would recommend this album to people who like to experience that kind of thing. It also an interesting albums for fans of experimental electronic music who should check scorn out. It should not be bought for people who need a lot of variation in a song or by anyone who don't think the above description sounds appealing.
