tolivercrash's Full Review: Butter 08 by Butter 08
This CD contains some of the best music that I've personally ever heard. It's difficult to describe but I would have to use words like raw, sexy and brute force. Released in 1996, nothing with as much sonic power has been heard before or since.
Butter 08 (the group) consists of Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda (both of Cibo Matto), Russell Simins (of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), Rick Lee and Mike Mills (same name but not the guy from R.E.M.).
I dig Boss Hog and JSBX for the raw power of their music. Russell brings that power and punk sensibility along with a funky rhythm to boot. His drumming on this CD is so powerful you can actually see the dents in the surface of the disc! Miho's vocals range from subtle to screaming frenzy. The music chugs along so well, that the CD is over before you know it.
You want more Butter! I want more Butter! But I fear that this may have been a one-shot side project.
Warning: this is not a work for the faint of heart. There's frenetic drumming, towering beats, an occasional horn, massive crunch and swear words, too. This may be the only time you could break a tooth on some butter.
