dominionxl's Full Review: Remnants of a Deeper Purity by Black Tape For A Bl...
Sam Rosenthal, lead singer of Black Tape For A Blue Girl, is a pioneer in the Gothic/Darkwave industry. Himself being an accomplished musician, and founder/creater of the Projekt/Darkwave label, he has helped make grand music available t literally thousands of fans all over the world.
To call Remnants Of A Deeper Purity a masterpiece would be putting it mildly. This is, in my opinion, their best work. From the opening first track, a somber bell swings for two minutes before you hear the despair in Sam's voice come to life. The song appears to end, then in the background, a few decibiles lower than the rest of the music is the faint sound of an old grand piano playing a little tune which brings to mind a journey into an old, abandoned Victorian mansion wherein you can hear music coming from rooms where no one is present. Absolutely haunting!
The next song is pure bliss and drove me to tears when I heard it for the first time. The song is about losing a child and it is so beautiful and dark, it is impossible not to be moved. If you like gorgeous, choir-like, ethereal, angelic female vocals, you will love this CD. It's an album to play on those long trips through the Netherworld. This is more classical than their previous albums and it's an experienced that is to be savored.
If you like gothic, classical, or new age chances are you will love this album too. This band is severely underrated and Remnants Of A Deeper Purity is pure magic. I only wish the songs went on forever.
