julieagee's Full Review: Beauty for Ashes by Crystal Lewis
I saw Crystal Lewis at a Celebrate Freedom concert for the first time with 100,000 others in a summer rain storm. After she was almost literally blown off stage, the concert had to be postponed. However, I had heard enough of her powerful voice to know that I had to obtain a copy of Beauty for Ashes. That concert was three summers ago, and I have been a faithful fan ever since. Beauty for Ashes is based on the scripture found in Isaiah 61:3, it says, "...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair..." This CD has truly blessed my heart. I have enjoyed the mingle of the upbeat God's Been Good To Me along with the meaningful message behind the words of Seasons Change. Crystal has a one of a kind voice that rivals the voices of Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey. Her music style is varied, but tends to fall into the pop category. I enjoy listening to this CD not only because it is well produced and the words are uplifting, but also because the words minister to my heart. Title Song - Beauty for Ashes
Crystal Lewis and Ron Kenoly combine forces to sing this powerful song. They blend their talent together and produce a superb number. How many times have you not wanted to face a difficult situation? The words offer a suggestion for a time such as this. When sorrow seems to surround you, when suffering hangs heavy o'er your head, know that tomorrow brings wholeness and healing, God knows your need, just believe what He said. A perfect choice for the CD title. People Get Ready...Jesus is Coming
This fast-paced song tells the story about the day when Jesus will return. It is a favorite of my boys, and has even been a catalyst for a theological discussion with my six year old about "when" Jesus is going to return. The words urge others to be ready for the triumphant return. The Lion and The Lamb
Who is He the song asks as it describes the various characteristics of Jesus. The vocals on this song are truly outstanding. After hearing Crystal's version, I can hardly listen to others without making comparisons. She really nailed this one. God's Been Good To Me
God has truly been good to this artist. Her voice is an asset that sets her above the average performer. You can be guaranteed quality sounds throughout the whole CD. She definitely has a gift and she gives a gift with her music. Thanks Crystal. Seasons Change
This song delivers a message of hope for those who are going through a "dry spell" in their life. This song was written by Crystal, and it is obvious that she "has been there a time or two". It has heartfelt lyrics that let you know that season change and things turn around.
While the rest of the CD is just as wonderful as the songs I listed, these are my absolute favorite from Beauty for Ashes. I originally purchased a cassette tape for our van, but have since purchased a CD for our house. While I believe older teens through adults will appreciate this CD, I have to note that my three boys aged 4, 5, and 6 all enjoy Crystal's music.
