I am a huge U2 fan but I never bought this album. I don't know what they were thinking, but I'm definitely willing to forgive them, especially since they really don't play any of these songs anymore at their live shows. My current favorite U2 song? IN A LITTLE WHILE, simply awesome! Actually for a story behind that one, Bono spent the previous night drinking, and his voice was all raspy when he went to the studio to record the next day, but they loved the effect it brought to the song so they kept it!
How long must we sing this song?

At least you didn't mention NSYNC.... or NKOTB :]
I am a fan of the old school U2 stuff and if their current music is any indication of where they are headed - it looks like I'll remain in the old school funk.
Thats not to say this wasn't a great review :]

Pop was what got me into U2... (Reply to this comment)

... and stopped me falling into the classic Indie Kid trap of denouncing them as Satan incarnated! I'm glad so many people on this site have seen the great big glowing light of this album! And Discotheque is about drugs you know (Ok, I admit I only know that 'cos I saw it on the NME review...)!

I was a fan of the 'old' U2 (WAR was my fav.) and sort of lost interest in them as their music became more pop oriented.
They're still great, and I usually like what I hear from them on the radio ... but I just liked the sound & style better before they were 'Big Time' ... but it sounds like this CD must have some excellent tracks!
