downgraded's Full Review: OK Computer by Radiohead
The rising commercialisation of the music industry has allowed poor artists to make a lot of money. It's also forced a lot of good artists to go against what they want to do in order for the record label to make money. It's nice to see that Radiohead can do what they want to and keep their message the same.
The follow-up to their previous album, The Bends, OK Computer has a mammoth task in front of it. Apart from Thom's distinctive voice, you probably wouldn't know this was Radiohead if you didn't have the cover. Not to say that this CD is bad, it's not. Not at all. Just different.
Lyrically, OK Computer seems to be discussing modern society. Maybe ironically, who knows. Thom is very political in nature, but he's also capable of being tongue-in-cheek and ironic. But the message he's giving, seems to be how we'll all destroy ourselves. Or each other.
"For a minute there, I lost myself"
OK Computer has a few obvious singles on it, many have been released with excellent videos too. It's quite ironic of them to release the singles, seeing the band's stand on consumerism. But I guess they need to eat and get their message across somewhere.
Generally good as a whole. Has some chilling, haunting tracks on it. Exit Music (For a Film) and Lucky being the obvious ones. Sometimes, they can reduce a man to tears. Excellent.
