Yes, I agree. Buena Vista has brought Cuban music to the spotlight - leading many people to explore deeper. Another good album to check out from the other side of the Atlantic is Dexter Johnson - Label : Dakar Sound, available through Stern's (an American distributor/label) This Senegalese saxophone player / arranger covers many Cuban classics - slows them down, distills them, giving them a gentle and hypnotic quality - without sacrificing substance. I respect your critical review of the Buena Vista Social Club. Thank you for your frank assessment. I've copied down the recommened listing and will definitely check them out. If I loved the Buena Vista Social Club then I'll love the sounds, rhythm and vocals of "authentic" Cuban music. Looking forward to tracking down the CD's.
It's great that the Buena Vista Social Club brought attention to this great type of music to a new audience and hopefully lead others to discover musicians they otherwise would never come to know and enjoy.
Sincerely,
Mireya
