HomeMediaMusicHandel: Arias / Bryn Terfel
Opinion Summary
Bryn Terfel shakes Heavens and earth
by Stephen_Murray | Apr 02 '08
Pros: the last third-plus even more than the rest
Cons: the aria from "Bernice" sounds just a bit labored (straining to supply a "con"!)

This is a wonderful cd (Reply to this comment)

This is one of my favourite cds to slip into a mix on my player. Terfel's voice is so powerful and expressive, and he just gets better over time. Great choice for a review, and thank you for reminding me of it! -- Telynor

Me, too (had it for years, like my Mackerras recording of "Israel in Egypt"--maybe I should write about it).

Chopped liver is not permitted in my pantheon -- over which Bach reigns supreme.

and (more to the point) I savored your supplely composed review.

Regarding your continually percipient verdicts, my favorite is:

"Georg Friedrich Händel ... has an even higher place in my pantheon of composers than Wolfgang Mozart...." Well said, Stephen! [Not that Wolfie was chopped liver.] ;-)
