I don't know much about Aphex Twin other than the only person in the band is Richard D. James.. and he has some very interesting music. Just how do you classify this type of music? Answer.. You really can't. It is not traditional music by any sense.. it is rather an artistic interpretation of things. I really like music that most find to be strange, odd, or weird. This ep-disc definitely is these things!

I have a few other Aphex Twin projects and they are the same type of electronic music.. bordering on 'What the heck was that!' and going to "Wow great song!'.. always something interesting and different and never stale. Aphex Twin is definitely a acquired taste. Aphex Twin music is all electronic. I have never heard any traditional instruments such as acoustic guitar.. any guitar for that matter .. acoustic drums, etc.

Come To Daddy
This is one of the most bizarre songs I have ever heard. It creates a scary mood .. like something out of a Clive Barker novel or movie.. Hellraiser comes to mind. The video for this song was banned from MTV when it first came out for being to scary! If it has been banned then chances are it is good.. If you have seen the video you know that it is pretty scary stuff. The lyrics of the song are

Very aggressive and high tempo with a drum and bass/jungle feel to the beat.. on the fast end. Heavy distortion really gives the song a better 'scarier', gritty, feel. Along with lyrics distorted to almost a demon/madman like tone.. make this a killer song.

Film
Instrumental song that you sit and wonder if you are listening to the same person that did Come To Daddy.. it is totally different! A quiet song that is great listening in any mood. It almost makes me think of a theme song to a movie or something. Nice beat that is a bit like breakbeat music.. it doesn't follow the standard formula and has a lot of interesting stops and starts.

Come To Daddy - Little Lord Faulteroy Mix
The pappy mix of this song is the most bizarre.. (the one listed above). This version is a LOT calmer and more of what I would call a traditional song. Slower beat, and no distorted effects in this one. There is a little kid that starts singing part way through the song and then his voice is distorted somehow, and it gives a kind creepy effect.. almost like in the movie Pet Semetary when the little kid is possessed by a demon. Excellent drum and bass sound.

Bucephalus Bouncing Ball
Don't listen to this one with lots of high end on your stereo. Turn the treble to about middle if you keep it up.. there are some aggressive high notes in this one. This song is very 'busy' with a lot of activity. I usually would skip over this one because it just would be too much. I really have to be in the mood for this one.

To Cure A Weakling Child, Contour Regard
This one starts out as a soundscape-esque type song. After a bit it starts picking up with a beat. This is one of the less aggressive songs and it doesn't have a scary or creepy feel to it. Has more of a positive feel. Every so often the music will come to a complete stop and you hear a kid saying something and then it picks up right away.. great effect! This is one of the really cool effects that Aphex Twin really have mastered.

Funny Little Man
When I first heard this one I started laughing.. it reminds me of what a video game soundtrack sounds like. I can just see me winding my way through a maze of flaming turtles or something, jumping each one or kicking each one while a number of points flash on the screen. When you get ready to write your next video game, hey maybe you can use this as the theme!

Come To Daddy - Mummy Mix
Another song to listen to with the treble down. This one has lots of high end brain -piercing sounds right off the bat. Some lower sounds are tossed in as it goes to even it out just a bit. This song is nothing at all like any of the other Come To Daddy mixes. This one is my least favorite as it sounds like some kid is going crazy in a music store after drinking 10 cases of Jolt Cola. Be warned.. don't turn the volume up on this one whatever you do! Your brain will explode.

IZ-US
This is one of my favorite songs on this disc. It is a slower song with a sampled beat that repeats at just the right moment and it is very addictive. The beat will play out and then repeat at the end at just the precise moment to make it seem as if it is a continuous beat. Along with this is some deep bass at the right times. Excellent song! This is a instrumental song... no vocals.
