Pros:Better sound than Captured album. More popular songs. Perry at his best.
Cons:Raised on Radio songs would've made it more complete. Can't hear crowd.
The Bottom Line: Get this album before Captured. The music's clearer, the melodies are more effective, the drums are heavier, the songs are better.
Before the release of this album, I always said it was unfortunate Journey did not have a live album that covered songs Journey's most successful era (Escape, Frontiers, etc.)Even though Captured is a definite classic, no Journey live album would be complete without songs such as Don't Stop Believin', Send Her My Love, and Seperate Ways. Greatest Hits Live includes all the great Journey classics such as Lights, Wheel In The Sky, and Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin', with surprising additions like, Escape and After The Fall. The sound is a lot more heavier and clearer than Captured. Steve Perry, the man, the voice, enough said about that. The most disappointing thing about this album is that the crowd is inaudible, which takes away the albums's live vibe. Open Arms is a song that always got the ladies screaming, but as soon as J. Cain begins his melody, it's as if everyone wants to be hushed so they can hear his fingertips on the keys. I was also disappointed that there were no songs from the Raised On Radio album. I was hoping to hear some Girl Can't Help It or I'll Be Alright Without You, but unfortunately the list didn't go that far. And no Steve Smith drum solo - always disappointing.
