Jedi5000's Full Review: Hellbilly Deluxe [PA] by Rob Zombie
Rob Zombie-One of the lesser known artists, but one not to be overlooked. The artist formally known as "White Zombie" still has much black magic left in him. Ever since White Zombie broke up, he followed his own path and created this as his first solo CD. Here are my ratings on the songs on the CD:
.Call of the Zombie-N/A-Some annoying little girl chanting stuff. A good intro to the death metal genre.
.Superbeast-9.5/10-NEVER A DULL MOMENT IN THIS SONG! Pretty much every single second of this song is hard rock.
.Dragula-8/10-Not as loud or hard as "Superbeast", but its got a pretty good beat that I think deserves an 8.
.Living Dead Girl-10/10-Probably my favorite song on the CD. Its got an eerie feel to it that makes me think of a rotting corpse. I like the refrain too.
.Perversion-3.5/10-Some stupid song on the CD, has no lyrics. It does have that sort of scary feel to it, but i personally just don't like it. More repetitive than anything.
.Demonoid Phenomenon-6.5/10-I like the drums in this song, they give it a good beat. Besides that, the rest of the song is average, nothing spectacular.
.Spookshow Baby-6.5/10-Starts out like some Japanese Samuri song. I like the way Zombie lowers his voice and adds a sort of mystical effect to the song.
.How to make a Monster-2.5/10-Corny, no definition to it. The beast is too fast and just too weak for me. I can hardly hear what Zombie's saying. This song just does not fall into place well.
.Meet the Creeper-8/10-Hard and loud song. The guitars really make it sound like true heavy metal, along with Zombie's low eerie voice. He also incorperates an echo that adds to the songs overall quality.
.The Ballad of Resurrection Joe-6.5/10-This song is moderately soft compared to the other songs on the CD. The drums keep a decent beat that scores it a 6.5.
.What Lurks on Channel X?-7/10-More like a dance toon, keeps a fast beat. It's not a hard song so I only gave it a 7.
.Return of the Phantom Stranger-8.5/10-Good song; I like the refrain the best. The drums really enhance the song's content. The refrain sounds like a chorus of ghosts which make it stick with the CD's sort of death theme.
.The Beginning of the End-4.5/10-Corny ending if you ask me; it sounds more like a clutter of instruments than song. Doesn't even have his voice in it.
As an overall rating, I would give this CD a 9.3 because it integrates heavy and death metal in one CD. Zombie has a way of making his music different than what you would normally be used to. I bought the CD because I heard some of his songs on the Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 games for playstation. But what really made me say "I have to buy this" is when I heard "Living Dead Girl" in the intro to The Bride of Chucky. Zombie also puts on amazing concerts with his overall theme of Death and the Undead. The CD also has a cool CD manual that comes with the it, but you have to buy it to find out what it is!
