johnjoh's Full Review: Orange Rhyming Dictionary by Jets To Brazil
Jets to Brazil comes from the roots of emo and post-punk bands (Jawbreaker/Texas is the Reason), but if you listen to their debut album, Orange Rhyming Dictionary (Jade Tree), it'd be hard to clearly classify them as an "emo" band. However, if you are a Jawbreaker, Samiam, Promise Ring, or a Texas is the Reason fan, you'll like this band. And if you liked Blake's songwriting and lyrical content in Jawbreaker, you'll just have to head out and pick up some Jets to Brazil.
The songs on Orange Rhyming Dictionary range from slightly new-wavish alterna-rock, to rock, to folkish rock, to up-beat, catchy tunes, to somber slower melodies. The production is very well done. You'll hear good sound definition on Blake's vocals. This is a melodic and "poppy" album, a little in the vein of a U2-ish album, with that punk/emo slant.
Try this one out, whether you're hardcore into emo, punk, or not, you'll probably like this album. You can't go wrong with Blake's songwriting.
