LessThanNick1's Full Review: F.T.T.W. by H2O (Hardcore)
The first time I heard H2o was about 3 years ago. I was in 8th grade. I had this Playstation game called Street Sk8er. The soundtrack of the game was mostly punk rock stuff. The H2o song “Everready” was on Street Sk8er. I sort of forgot about H2o for about two years. In fact, I don’t think I even knew the name of any bands on the Street Sk8er game. Last year a kid in my class let me borrow the H2o CD Faster Than The World. I really liked it. The kid told me he didn’t really like it and he would trade it to me for a mix CD. I make him a mix CD and acquired H2o’s Faster Than The World for less than a dollar. (blank CDs cost around $.25) The only problem was that I didn’t get the CD case. I never have gotten the CD case.
This is Hardcore?
H2o call themselves a hardcore band. SO do a lot of people I’ve talked to about them. I’m not sure if H2o are hardcore. They have some of the makings of a hardcore band. I would call their sound fast punk though. Their guitar riffs are fast and distorted. One of H2o’s best parts in their bass. The bass is extremely good. It’s fast and creative. It doesn’t compliment the guitar, it is it’s own entity. Usually when a bass player isn’t very good he just plays along with the guitar but H20’s bass is really quite good. In a sense, H2o could be considered melodic hardcore because they are sort of heavy and very fast. The also have the trade-mark sing-a-long choruses that hardcore is famed for. I’m not expert on hardcore, in fact,, I’m not even sure if I could give you a clear definition of it, but I know that H2o is well respected in the hardcore scene and considered to be a hardcore band by many. H2o’s sound is fast, yet melodic. Toby, the lead singer, has a great voice. He can sing very fast without losing his tone. That’s a good quality for a singer to have. Compared to older H2o albums this album sounds more popish and melodic. I’m not sure if it’s a change for the better. I like both the new H2o stuff and the old H2o stuff.
solid lyrics, guests galore
The lyrics on this album are very good. Their at some times political, like on the song Empty Pockets and they are at some times social like on the song EZ to be anti. EZ to be anti has some of the best lyrics I’ve heard in a while. With lines like: “I though this was supposed to be about open minds and unity, not alienation, separation, who is more pc.” Faster Than The World is chock full of guest appearances. They range from Dickey Barret of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones to the lead singer of Agnostic Front. H2o seem to have a lot of friends they can count on to help out with their album.

Stand-Out Tracks
“On Your Feet” - This song is the fastest and hardest song on the album. It sounds like older H2o. It got a blazing fast drums, a fast bass line, and some fast vocals about helping out your friends when they’re down and out.
“Force Field” - This song features Dickey Barret of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. He and Toby sing together. I love Dickey’s raspy vocals. The bass line on this album is probably the best on the whole album. It’s very original.
“EZ 2 B Anti” - This song is about how everyone in the punk and hardcore scene is so concerned with being elite, that they’ve forgotten what it’s all about. The song is average, but the lyrics are so great I had to make it a stand-out track.
