Pros: Original and fresh sounding atmospheres after many listens
Cons: Easily Moonspell's weakest album
The Bottom Line: I recommend this album to anyone and everyone into heavy rock/metal, although it's hard to pinpoint a target audience, so listen before buying.

| supraliminal's Full Review: Sin Pecado by Moonspell |
Sin/Pecado is the third full length album by Moonspell, and is progressively weaker than their previous efforts.... so if you learned you didn't like Irreligious due to it's weakness compared to Wolfheart, move along because you probably really won't like this release either. That being said, Sin/Pecado doesn't particularly sound like any previous album at all. In fact, if it weren't for Langsuyar's trademark deep vocals and growl, you would probably swear this was a different band entirely. Even his vocals sound somewhat different, as his clean vocals are beginning to sound more like singing and less like kind of chanting/talking, while his growls often get a kind of synthetic/techno/industrial effects treatment at times.
Musically, the album starts off with Handmadegod, a song which might fool the listener into thinking that they just bought an album heavier than Irreligious, a good song that really doesn't quite fit with the rest of the album. After Handmadegod, the album delves deep into what I can only describe as vaguely gothic/trippy/spacey/erotic/sex rock/metal. Lyrically and musically, this album keeps inspiring me to call up my girlfriend for an encounter. The guitars are always present, but they have a much more spacey and sometimes slightly industrial edge to them (in addition to much less volume in general), which serves to make this a lighter affair than other albums. The pace is generally less plodding than Irreligious, but again this fact may be lost in light of the fact that the guitars are so much quieter. A much welcome plus is a few very nice guitar solos that weren't really attempted on previous releases.
If a label such as gothic/trippy/spacey/erotic/sex rock/metal album intrigues you, I'd encourage you to give this album a listen. No matter what sound Moonspell plays, they play it damn well! If you liked Wolfheart AND Irreligious, I'd recommend this as well. If you just like Wolfheart, you may want to listen before you buy, although I must tell everyone to listen to this album at least 3 times before writing it off. I didn't care for it much until my third or fourth listen, but it's grown on me and is now one of my personal favorites. Yes this is a weaker release, but it's still very good, and there are too many atmospheres and things going on in the mix to catch with the first listen.
