Pros: Some of the most original music of the 1970's
Cons: The "Tiny Tim" like vocals may put some off.
The Bottom Line: Sparks is really a group that defies description. To appreciate them you have to hear them. Once you do I promise you will never hear music the same way again.

| swagen's Full Review: Kimono My House by Sparks |
GenrePop, Rock
Evaluation Sparks was ahead of it's time. That was all too obvious by the groups somewhat rapid demise. Most people didn't get them. Either they thought they were too off the wall or were put off by Russell Mael's Tiny Tim like falsetto. The truth is, Sparks was the brightest breath of fresh air to come out of the mid 70's. I first heard them just before my high school graduation in 1975. The song was "Achoo" off of Propoganda, which unfortunately is not available for review at this site. The album was and still is their all time best. Kimono My House, however, is not far behind. Released just before Propoganda, it had all the freshness of it's follow up album. Ron Mael's songs are as catchy as they are infectious. One can't help sing them all day long. I will review the hi-lights of this particular album.
1) This Town Ain't Big Enough... A wild western farce that is pure Sparks. Listen to this one song and you will know exactly what Sparks is about as it contains all the elements of a typical Sparks tune. Catchy melody, fresh arrangement, and those unmistakable Russell Mael vocals.
2) Falling In Love With Myself Again A waltz. That's right, a waltz. If this song doesn't make you smile from ear to ear then you are either in a coma or a flat out miserable person. One of my all time favorite Sparks songs, complete with big finale' and all the glitz.
3) Talent Is An Asset I dare any normal human being to try to sing the melody line to the chorus of this song. Another example that Russell Mael is truly one of the most unusual singers of the pop era. Also a testimony to the originality of Ron Mael's writing.
4) Lost And Found This song was not on the original album but has been included in the remix. Another typical Sparks tune that just shouts of weirdness. I'm so glad they put this song on the album.
The rest of the songs are also very good if not quite as tight as these. The Sparks sound is clearly evident throughout this masterpiece.
