melissasrn's Full Review: Everywhere We Go by Kenny Chesney
East Tennessee's own Kenny Chesney was well on his way to stardom when this album, Everywhere We Go, was released in March of 1999. I must admit that I paid very close attention to his career almost from the beginning, being an East Tennessee country girl myself! It doesn't hurt that he has those boyish good looks going for him either. (Shhh....don't tell my husband I said that!)
Actually, I believe the first time I heard Everywhere We Go was while lying in the tanning bed at my local tanning salon. Not long after hearing it for the first time, I purchased this CD and have listened to it many, many times since then. Here's just a sample of some of the lyrics contained within this album and what each song means to me:
WHAT I NEED TO DO instantly became one of my favorites the first time I heard it. This ballad is the perfect beginning to a great CD.
I keep tellin myself this is the right thing to do
I was wasting her time waitin on dreams
That just weren't coming true...
If HOW FOREVER FEELS doesn't improve your mood and get your feet tapping to the beat, then no song will! This single stayed at the top of the country charts for many weeks when it was initially released.
Big, orange ball sinking in the water
Toes in the sand, couldn't get much hotter
Little umbrella shaped margueritas
Coconut oil tan senioritas
Oh now I know how Jimmy Buffet feels
YOU HAD ME FROM HELLO would be an instant favorite to any fan of the movie "Jerry McGuire." The simple message this song sends out has made it a popular song played at many weddings, including my brother's last fall.
One word, that's all you said
Something in your voice caused me to turn my head
Your smile, just captured me
And you were in my future, far as I could see
KISS ME, KISS ME, KISS ME is an upbeat "tell it like it is" (Dr. Phil style for any of you OPRAH fans!) song that will keep you singing along every time you hear it.
She said you never tell me that you love me anymore
So I can't help but wonder if you do
She said if things don't change you'll see me
Walk right out that door
As I've done everything I know to do
LIFE IS GOOD is a tribute to living in the present and how much better life is when you are with the one you love.
Darlin if you think back to the heartbroken past
Before we found each other
It's so amazin, it's almost crazy
What a difference looking through the eyes of love
In EVERYWHERE WE GO, this CD's namesake, Kenny Chesney sings of how everthing in his life reminds him of his true love.
Well I just found this old picture in my wallet
Of you and me, down in Mexico
Just look at us there on the beach on that blanket
That look on our face says all you need to know
SHE THINKS MY TRACTOR'S SEXY is a song most people either love or hate. There's no middle ground here! I personally LOVE it! It never fails to make me smile every time I hear it....sexual innuendos and all.
Plowing these fields in the hot summer sun
Over by the gate, Lordy here she comes
With a basket full of chicken
And a big cold jug of sweet tea
CALIFORNIA is a sultry ballad about a girl coming of age and leaving home after being sexually abused by her father. It will certainly leave an impression on your heart.
She lived at the end of a little dirt road
In a house where secrets go untold
Barefoot in a cotton dress
Dark hair in a tangled mess
And a head full of crazy dreams
BAPTISM (DUET WITH RANDY TRAVIS) is very popular here in Tennessee with many Southern fundamentalists. It covers an old fashioned baptism in a way only Kenny Chesney (with Randy's help of course) can do.
The summer breeze made ripples on the pond
Right on through the reeds
And the willow trees beyond
Daddy in his good hat, Momma in her Sunday dress
They watched with pride as I stood there
In the water up to my chest
A WOMAN KNOWS covers the issue of a cheating male partner...be it a boyfriend or spouse.
She can't put her finger on a single lipstick stain
Perfume doesn't linger in his shirt
There's no matchbook in his pocket
With a number and a name
So why do she still hurt?
And finally, I MIGHT GET OVER YOU is a ballad that perfectly completes the Everywhere We Go CD.
Well I opened my heart, and I let you in
Promised I'd never love again
And I'm still doing what I said I'd do
Someday I might get over you
In summary, Kenny Chesney's "Everywhere We Go" CD would make a great addition to anyone's country music collection. If you plan on taking a drive in the country any time soon with the top down, take this CD along. You'll be at your destination in no time at all and wonder just where the time went!
