First of all, I want to say that before this album I thought that all Chris Rock was another corny black stand up (Steve Harvey, Richard Prior) who liked to joke about the same three things, 1. The racial status in America, 2 the Ghetto, and 3 the contrast between all races. But after listening to my older sister’s CD Bigger and Blacker, I instantly became a Chris Rock fan. Of course as the title suggests, he does talk about race on his CD. But his also talks about other things, such as President Clinton, The Columbine shootings, Gays and the differences between the races live. It is true some things he says are offensive and stereotypical, but that’s what makes the CD funny. Just as you think he is just an ignorant black male who knows nothing about how the races live, he jokes about something that maybe you do, or you have seen been done.
Another thing that makes the CD a good catch is its length. The CD is 22 tracks and these tracks have a variety of styles. For example, on one track he tells wives want to do if their husband is “addicted to pornography” while on another track he sings about how there should be “no sex in the champagne room”
However, one of the CD’s problems is its constant mentioning of sex. The CD can be funny for an open-minded person but for an easily offended person, this CD might not be the choice. All and all, this CD is a pretty funny because Chris “keeps it real” and does not tell it how should be, but how it is. It has some high points that will keep you finger on rewind and you in laughter.
