nickrock23's Full Review: Afterglow * by Dot Allison
Dot Allison used to be in the group One Dove. I havent heard much Dove, however I do know that not all songs were sung by Allison. The song i heard was "Breakdown". I was amazed by her voice, and the song is great. What made me like it was the fact that it was different from all the garbage they throw out nowadays. Catchy, poppy, but somehow she manages to be radio-unfriendly, which is always a plus. I decided i needed more and got her solo album, Afterglow. I wasn't disappointed at all. The songs that got my attention from the start - "Colour Me", with a fat drum/bass loop where the chorus is "heaven, you're in heaven now" with a flange or phaser-like effect. "Close Your Eyes" is a great song that sounds like it could be a top 10 hit but just isn't. "Did I Imagine You" is a slow song, one of the only songs without a drum loop. Its very nice. Its kinda girly, but I still like it alot. The best song, in my opinion is "Message Personel (Arab remix)". For some reason I was drawn to this song and listened to it over and over. The lyrics are witty, and repeat again and again, but somehow the piano, guitar, and a sitar-sounding instrument in the background progress into something very special. All together its a great CD, and I'm looking forward to more from Dot Allison.
