musekick's Full Review: Liquid Skin by Gomez
Gomez are one of my favorite bands simply because their music
is slinky, funky, and easy to listen to. This album is not as instantly
catchy as their first, so I had to listen to the CD a few times before the
songs really sank in, but boy is this album good! Gomez are at their
best, with a mix of folk, blues, rock, and a bottle of tequila. That's
appropriate, considering the first song on the album is titled "Hangover
Girl." The most charming aspect of Gomez's music, though, is the fact that they are in no hurry to finish a song. The whole 'Liquid Skin' CD seems to float around in a haze while the band pilots it, half-asleep. That might make you a tad sleepy as well.
