darksidaz's Full Review: Internal Affairs [PA] by Pharoahe Monch
Pharoahe returns to the forefront with a load of Rawkus promotion to drop the much anticipated Internal Affairs. Can you say album of the year? Peep tracks like, "The Light," "Rape," "Official," and "The Truth," featuring Talib Kweli and Chi-town's Common. I always felt no crew or individual in hip-hop could match Organized's lyrical complexity. All of the MC's who can are housed by Pharoahe's label - Company Flow, Mos Def, Shabaam Sahdeeq... (sorry Mos, your album is not reviewable yet on epinions.com)Pharoahe's album is huge. Flex is playing "Simon Says," all over Hot 97 and at the Tunnel, and the song becomes a dancefloor favorite across the country. Pharoahe? Rockin' in clubs? His message may breeze past mindless clubgoers, but this is definitely one of the best album's of the year. If I were to rate this album, I'd give it 8.5 out of 10. He doesn't rely on guests to carry the album, and every track is different from the others. Pharoahe produced much of the album and does a stellar job. Overall, this ain't as dope as Mos Def's, or even as dope as OK's The Equinox, but it is far above the rest, and a victory for the underground.
