This is NOT heavy metal
Written: Jan 26 '01 (Updated Jan 26 '01)
Pros:Great composition, great performance, great sound.
Cons:Cons? what cons? Dream Theater never had cons...
The Bottom Line: Great performance, great composition. Not for Backstreet Boys fans.
It all started in the Metropolis Pt. 1: The miracle and the sleeper found in the Images & Words album, after 7 years Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a memory continues and tells on 77 minutes the complex story of Nicholas trying to find out the facts hidden in his dreams with the help of a hypnotherapist.
Scenes from a memory have no stops, no separate songs, you have to hear the record from the start to the end in order to appreciate the whole record, showing Dream Theater's maturity and virtuous composition skills. This is not heavy metal, this is no yells and screams over noisy guitar playing. When the music, acording to the story should be fast and lout it is. When is should be calm or even romantic, it is.
The performance of every member in the band is amazing, on this record and on stage (in fact they play the whole album live).
VERY recommended if you are into the prog music or not. The first time you hear it I recommend you seat, grab a cup of coffee, take the booklet and start the music reading the lyrics so you can understand the very complex story behind this great album.
