My favorite song on No. 4 is easily "I Got You," but it seems to have been completely omitted from your review...? It IS 7AM where I am and I may just be out of it, but I didn't see a mention of it...! Oh well, different strokes/folks and all that!

a huge STP fan since CORE and think PURPLE is still their best. I like every album including this one, to a tiny bit a lesser degree. I agree with you about LADY PICTURE SHOW (one of my fav's too) and this review is bang-on!
By the way, what do you think of their latest Shangri-La-Di-Da?

during one long Summer (1994) all I listened the whole time it seemed was Purple by STP and Superunknown by Soundgarden. Either or, that was it. STP got me through some long days, and have a special place in my mind.
Tiny Music wasn't Purple, but there were a lot of things to like. No. 4 mystified me, for many of the reasons you mentioned in your excellent review. "Atlanta" was definitely the highlight of the album and one of my fav STP songs, and "Down" was also great--they're the only songs from No. 4 that made my custom STP disc. Okay, before this comment turns into a review I'll wrap up. Very nicely done review.

I apologize for my pace. Then again, I have a great time writing. If I don't slow down I do fear that eventually here I'll run out of material. Then again, maybe i'll have to just go buy more.

Wow. I could have written this review myself. As a fellow STP fan, I have the whole catalog as well, and I was reading this review going "yep, yep, uh-uh, right again" all of the way through. I was planning on reviewing this at some point, but now I'm afraid to since our opinions would sound so unbelievably similar! Ha.
I've often said that STP sounds just like the Doors on Atlanta, also one of my favorite tracks. And, again, you are right on about the weak songs, especially Church On Tuesday (the same bars and lyrics over and over and over) and Pruno (counting lyrics? Please, Sesame Street this ain't).
MC5 rocks...it's just a bit too short and underproduced (something you rarely hear me say). It would have benefited from the guys spending a little more time one it, but it's good nonetheless.
Another good review...your pace is scary, girl.

how you feel! I love Barenaked Ladies, and it kills me to admit that every album of theirs is not 5/5 stars. Sounds like this one is one to get, even if it isn't the best of the bunch. Great review, Shelly.
