superherokid's Full Review: Something To Write Home About by The Get Up Kids
"Wow..." That's one way to start explaining the Get Up Kids. I first heard them from my drummer's sister who had recently bought their CD. I fell in love almost right away. They're basically labeled as "emo/pop/rock" but they are so much more than that.
The music is extremely catchy! The vocals are emotional and smooth, the guitar is powerful with just the right amount of distortion, the bass lines aren't profoundly up front but they accent the rest beautifully. And the drummer... unbelievable. And the lyrics are awesome... insightful and touching to begin.
It's all creative and you can't help but want to sing along to it. This band is so much fun! Everyone in my band likes them so much, they're our biggest influence!
I'd recommend Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring, and Two-Thirty-Eight most to go along with the Get Up Kids but definitely buy this CD! It's their newest one so far and their older CD's sound a little more punk but they are just as good! I will never get tired of this CD... in fact, I just bought it on vinyl also. Now I have three copies (mp3, vinyl, CD) so I don't have to worry about looking around if I lose on of the copies :)
The best songs to check out on this CD would be, "Ten Minutes" and "I'll Catch You". Two of the best songs I ever heard. You can get this album from Tower Records, Borders, eBay, etc... the most I've seen it for (brand new) is about $12.00.
The only downside I can think of is that the CD ends! There's 12 songs but that's not enough! So, all in all... this band is awesome, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with it.
