Breathe by Faith Hill

Written: Oct 30 '01
Pros:some good songs ~ great duet with Tim McGraw~ one nice religious song
Cons:a little too pop for me
The Bottom Line: Faith's earlier songs were better in my opinion, but this album is still worth a listen.

On Faith Hill's album Breathe you will find 13 songs. It came out in 1999 on Warner Brother Records. It was produced by Faith Hill, Byron Gallimore and Dan Huff.

You will hear the following instruments on this album: keyboards, drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, percussion, steel, piano and organ.

The background singers are: Lisa Cochran, Chris Rodriguez, Bekka Bramlett, Dennis Wilson, Kim Parent, Gene Miller, Stephanie Bentley and Lisa Bevill.

Here are the songs:

What's In It For Me (Billy Burnette, Bekka Bramlett, Annie Roboff)
This is a fast song about a couple that breaks up and now he wants to work it out. She wants to know what's in it for her. The chorus sounds like something you would listen to while exercising.

I Got My Baby (Bob DiPiero, Annie Roboff)
Everything was going bad until she met this guy. Now she is so in love with him.

Love is a Sweet Thing (Brett James, Troy Verges)
A homeless man pushes his cart down the road with a bottle of beer in his hand. A girl from Texas is on stage at a bar. They both start singing Love is a sweet thing.

Breathe (Holly Lamar, Stephanie Bentley)
This song has won both pop and country awards. She is so swept away with her man, lying in his arms. She hears his heart beating and she can feel him breathe.

Let's Make Love (Chris Lindsey, Mark Green, Bill Luther, Aimee Mayo)
This is a duet with Faith's famous husband Tim McGraw. The song has a nice piano sound in it. All day long she has been dreaming of him. She just wants to be with him. "Let's make love all night long until our strength is gone".

It Will Be Me (Gordon Kennedy, Wayne Kirkpatrick)
This is a slow song. She will be there for him when he starts to fall. She will catch him and be there when everyone else has hurt him.

The Way You Love Me (Keith Follese, Michael Delaney)
This song has a major pop sound as well. She loves the way he loves her. "Your're the million reason why there's love reflecting in my eyes"

If I'm Not In Love (Constant Change)
This has a nice piano introduction. She wonders why she feels the way she does if she isn't in love with him. She thinks of him, wants him, misses him and her heart is aching for him. He is her every fantasy.

Bringing Out the Elvis (Leif Larsson, Louise Hoffsten)
This song is really weird I think. He is bringing out the Elvis in her, making her want to wing her hips and burst out and sing.

If My Heart Had Wings (Annie Roboff, J Fred Knobloch)
Here's another one for the pop fans. This is a fast song. She is on the road traveling and thinking of how lonely she is. She wants to be home with him and if her heart had wings she'd fly to him. They have so many miles between them.

If I Should Fall Behind (Bruce Springsteen)
This is a beautiful love song. If she falls behind she asks him to wait for her. If his steps fall differently than hers she will wait for him.

That's How Love Moves (Jennifer Kimball, Fitzgerald Scott, Ty Lacy)
He found something in her and she began to change. "She heard the voice of love calling without making a sound".

There Will Come a Day (Chris Lindsey, Bill Luther, Aimee Mayo)
This is a beautiful song. The world is a cold place. There are wars going on and bad things happening all over. The Father waits for us and he will wipe away every tear. All of the dark will be gone and we will all bow our knee to Him.

On If I'm Not In Love and That's How Love Moves you will hear strings by The Nashville String Machine. Faith Hill is a beautiful and talented singer, although she has moved over to pop now more than country. I personally like her earlier work the best. I do recommend this album, but it is not one of my favorites.

I was surprised to see Faith record a song written by Bruce Springsteen. I was also surprised to see her record a religious song. It is absolutely beautiful and brings me comfort knowing that one day the pain of this world will be no more. I applaud Faith for having the courage to record this song. It is my favorite on the album.
