I picked up the album after seeing the live show in Las Vegas recently. If you have the opportunity I highly recommend seeing it and if you can get seats in the first 4 rows. I was compelled to buy the album based upon the performances of the group live. It was a fantastic uplifting fun experience.
One of the best aspects to the Blue Man Group is its grounding in percussion and rhythm.
The strange thing about this CD is the stimulation you get depending upon the conditions under which you are listening to it.
This is definitely not a CD you want to risk listening to while you are driving, unless you want to risk a speeding ticket. However it’s a perfect CD to listen to while working out giving you plenty of rhythm and drive.
It’s a very industrial ambient sound which I enjoy listening to while
working, it helps my concentration.
Its also a fantastic CD for just turning up the volume kicking back closing your eyes and letting your self be carried on a journey with the music, something I find extremely relaxing. Very Dark Side of the Moon type of experience.
The one thing the album does not bring across is the humor or the mental stimulation from the live show. It doesn’t lessen the music on the CD but once you have experienced the show you feel that you are using only one of your senses. In the live show I thought the group did some very impressive covers including White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. I would be very interested to here some more covers done by the group but I don’t know if that would comprise their artistic individuality.
This album is almost a modern day version of a lot of the instrumental aspects of Pink Floyd but with an industrial sound and a large healthy dose of percussion. The most recent comparison I could make would be the likes of Stomp crossed with Tubular Bell.
