Mechanical Animals: Marilyn Manson's Ambitious and Entertaining Concept Album

Pros: Some excellent songs, rock and roll done right, ambitious...
Cons: I really don't care about the concept, a few less stellar selections...

Interesting stuff...thanks for the thoughtful comment. I don't agree that MM is the best guy/band of the 90s. Not in the least. But I do think he was influential and did create entertaining material. I don't think anything he did is perfect, but I do believe Antichrist Superstar to be moderately better than this album.

In any case, thanks. I like comments ;)

Yeah. That's what I meant--maybe, though, considering a video I could have meant her ;)

I think you have a typo in your opening sentence. You wrote: "Known for her personality, appearance, and on-stage antics as much as his music."

Didn't you mean, known for HIS personality?

I liked MM enough to buy a few of their albums (five, actually), but I think 4 stars is one or two too many for them. There is always the gnawing thought at the back of my head that they copied other classic rock songs and turned it into something pseudohorrible.

No offense, really, I respect your dislike for Robert Miles (I commented on that) and your like for MM. I actually think MM is the best rock band of the 90's, though that dubious honor is tantamount to being legally blind in a kigdom of bilateral eye-amputees.

A few years ago a preceptor of mine in med shcool who has traveled the world wide (currently 73 years old) and took me to many places stated that popular music was uniformly boring. His point was that most of the "guitar riffs", rythm structures and notes were ripped off of classical music but made more simplistc and repetitive through all the genres of pop music, inluding rock. After I hung out with him extensively both at work and at home where he has classical music constantly playing, even when he interviews patients, I started to agree.

I still like pop music, trashy euro techno and even a little rock n roll, but hanging out with him really spoiled pop music for me because I think that the better half of whatever song I am hearing always is based in classical music.

Best Regards
Bettega
