POWERGIRL5K's Full Review: Drawing Black Lines by Project 86
Drawing Black Lines by Project 86 is one of the best CDs I own. I had the chance to go to a concert of one of my other favorite Christian bands, The O.C. Supertones, and P86 opened for them. There were all these blue-haired plaid-wearing people there for the Supertones, and then you could tell who was there for Project, cause they were wearing black lipstick and combat boots, it was funny. The lead singer crowdsurfed and I got to touch him! Yee! But back to reviewing the CD.
Rapcore is becoming one of today's more popular genres of music, and Project 86 is definitely included. Many people consider rapcore to be like "Jay-Z with guitars", because many of today's bands just have NO emotion. Well, this band is very emotional, and their singer (Andrew Schwab) has some very thought-provoking things to say. The song "Open Hands" is about how we're never alone, we always have a Friend, no matter what happens.
If you're into really heavy music, this CD is for you. The word to describe the music would be "crushing" because it's got the sound of angrier metal/rap bands (let's just say it makes you wanna "Break Stuff"), but the lyrics don't seem angry at all. The overall sound is just amazing.
One thing that I've found strange is that the last track, track 12, is 14 minutes long! There are about 6 minutes of guitar and drum noises, not even music. It's almost funny to a point, and I found myself cracking up because just when you think it's going to end, it doesn't. This CD was on sale at the book & music store Mardels, and I got it for $12.98. Each song is at LEAST 3 and a half minutes long, actually roving more into the territory of 4 or 5 minutes. It's a very good buy for the money you pay.
The last thing I'd like to add is that if you like Project 86, you would also like P.O.D., Blindside and Selfmindead.
