kuuleimomi's Full Review: The Beach by Original Soundtrack
This album is for those who felt some dancing vibes while watching The Beach (with Leonardo DiCaprio looking like an eighteen-year-old kid). While songs on the disc are {{very}} different, they make a wonderful mix.
Im a huge fan of techno, drum & bass, trip-hop and generally all dance music (you can see that from my reviews -- plug, plug, and one more plug). This album is a compilation of dance music that comes from all forms pop, brit-pop, techno (and rave), trip-hop with a mix of drum & bass. It features such well-known people in music world like Moby, Underworld (plug), Faithless, Blur, Dario G, Orbital, Sugar Ray, New Order, All Saints (plug), and Im sure you know the rest names better than I do.
I have a lot of favorite tracks that I listen to specifically when Im in an urge to. I almost never listen to Pure Shores by All Saints, since its been overplayed on radio the year the movie was released. Same goes for Porcelain by Moby, but Im sure its a greater track, so I give it a spin sometimes, since Im generally ok with Moby and have a song of his in my top favorite feel-good tracks (Everloving that you mightve heard in If Walls Could Talk 2) and also liked his tracks in Hackers Soundtrack.
What I generally listen to is Yeke Yeke by Mory Kante. This is the best dance track (in my humble opinion, naturally). This is a wonderful song that luckily for most of you doesnt fall into hard-core techno category and is a joy both to your ears and feet. So go out and dance!
From the techno category Ill point out Richard, It's Business As Usual by Barry Adamson that is more in a Run Lola Run style. Close comes track by Underworld, which is not my favorite work of theirs hence they lost some points.
I like a couple of pop songs on the album. They both fall into Sunshine music category and make you feel good, relax and think of a vacation, somewhere in Polynesia preferably. Voices by Dario G is very like their hit single Sunchyme. Sugar Ray went even further with their Spinning Away to make you feel like on the beach somewhere on an island far and away. The song sounds even better if you like Mark McGraths voice.
Then to finish this eclectic mix there are a couple of rock-pop tracks that should fall into alternative category. Simply because there is music by Unkle and New Order, Im not quite sure you can dance to the whole album (Im more of a techno kid myself), though it wont spoil a party, thats for sure.
As a soundtrack this disc gets five points for suiting the movie perfectly. It has its spirit, it sends vibes and fluids to all the movie-goers. As a compilation Id give it four points, because it has some songs I frankly skip.
