Elliott Smith is a man who has been around for approximately ten years, but his music is not known to much of the free world. In fact, several people I have asked have never heard of him. But all that is about to change...
Smith's fifth and most recent album, "Figure 8", has been winning him more fame and public recognition. More people I've asked have now heard of him and/or seen him on television. And I am surprised and happy to say that I've heard one of his singles "Son Of Sam", out in a restaurant one day.
The single "Son Of Sam" is the first track on the album, and it is being played all across the country. It's not the most jovial of topics that Smith is singing about, but he does seem to poke some "fun" at the situation by using "lighter" music and avoiding heavy tones.
Some other songs on the album include "Junk Bond Trader", "Stupidity Tries", and "In The Lost and Found", my other three favorites... The music in this album is not as melancholy-sounding as it is in the previous four, but is has not changed so drastically that the artist is unrecognizable. It has just captured the public's attention a little more.
I highly recommend the album to anyone who wants to try something new, and if you have already heard it, I would suggest looking into his previous albums entitled "XO", "Either/Or", "Elliott Smith", and "Roman Candle". You never know what you're going to hear...
