Pros: well-blended harmonies and quiet pauses, the most sophisticated yo la tengo record to date
Cons: paper cd case is annoying, some songs drag on at times
The Bottom Line: it's a mellow listen with a lot of highlights. for someone who loves harmonies and soothing music but isn't afraid to step into a less conservative approach to soft pop.
boygirlparty's Full Review: And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out by Yo La...
it's been years, and still i come back to "and then nothing turned itself inside out" as a record i can listen to in any mood. its quiet overtones and moving melodies can relax or soothe any moment - whether driving around in the sun or winding down at home. this record shows off the pop sensibilities yo la tengo has for songwriting that other records of theirs underplay.
i strongly recommend this record to people who have found other yo la tengo albums too eclectic, people soothed by voices like nico's, and people who like records by bands such as the sea and cake, elliott smith, and the softies.
