Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
If you can use some exotic booze
There's a bar in far Bombay
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
With age comes regrets. Regrets for what we've done, or what we haven't done. Regrets for those we lost, and those we never found. Regrets for missed opportunities, moments of tenderness with our families and lovers that were sacrificed to jobs, careers and earthly goals.
Frank Sinatra was the icon of romanticism, the man known as the greatest entertainer of all time. Frank's voice over the jukebox and radio lured people to "fly away" with him, away to a place where War didn't exist. Where an aging heart can still wish to fly away, to a distant place where you can be yourself.
Who doesn't dream of the exotic hideaway portrayed in Frank's love song..
Once I get you up there where the air is rarified
We'll just glide, starry-eyed
Once I get you up there I'll be holding you so near
You may hear angels cheer 'cause we're together
Another place and time..where angels stand together in clouds and cheer for a union of souls that was finally meant to be.
Or perhaps this song represents the maturity and aging of life, thoughts and emotions. As people become older, more mature, their priorities change. More importantly, the smaller stuff becomes insignificant.
"What are you worrying about? Who cares what you look like, or what clothes you are wearing? Life is short-let's live it to the fullest. Let's fly away to an exotic place where only you and I exist..a place in our hearts and minds.
A place that we have earned living a good life here on Earth..a place that hopefully must exist. Or why the heck have we gone through all this?
There is a time, hopefully, in each of our lives that we remember when we "flew". The perfect night, the perfect dream realized. When the touch of a hand upon yours seemed to mesh together in a reality that transcended anything else you knew.
Regrets..he had a few, yes. But the party isn't over just because you are in your Golden Years. "Come Fly With Me" says it's a never-ending party, there for the taking. In your heart and spirit, you can sail away to distant lands and warm sands as long as you remember to keep faith in your heart.
As we get older, we put less significance on the small stuff, and wish we had done it sooner. Take a page out of Old Blue Eyes book, and forget that long walk to Nowhere.
Learn to fly.
